Choose the installation style
Undermount rangehoods sit within cabinetry for a concealed appearance. Canopy models form a visible feature above the cooking area. Slide-out models extend when used. Confirm the fixing arrangement and required cabinet dimensions for the model you select.
Match dimensions and clearances
Check the rangehood width, depth and height alongside the cooktop and cabinetry. Required clearance above the cooking surface depends on the appliances and their instructions; do not use a single generic clearance for every model.
Plan the air path
Confirm whether the selected model supports ducted extraction, recirculation or both. Recirculating use may require model-specific filters or accessories. Have your installer confirm the duct size, outlet position and route before ordering cabinets.
Compare extraction and noise carefully
Review the stated extraction rating, fan speeds and noise information. Ratings describe the manufacturer's stated conditions; installed performance also depends on the ventilation arrangement. Avoid choosing solely on one maximum airflow number.
Think about cleaning and controls
Compare filter access, control position and lighting. Follow the model instructions for cleaning filters and surfaces. Only put a filter in a dishwasher when its instructions say it is suitable.
